There’s something about the way a warm cookie, rich with layers of deep chocolate, can transport you to a place of pure bliss. For me, chocolate cookies always take me back to cozy weekends in my grandmother’s kitchen. She loved making rich, decadent treats, and the way the kitchen filled with the intoxicating aroma of baking cocoa was pure magic. Today, I’m thrilled to share a recipe that echoes that same indulgence—Crumbl’s Dark Dream Cookies. These ultra-chocolaty cookies are studded with semi-sweet chocolate chips, topped with a molten drizzle, and boast a dense, fudgy texture that makes every bite feel like a dream.

kcalIngredients
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs (room temperature)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa for a richer flavor)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chips, if you prefer)
1 cup chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers (for the chocolate drizzle)
Steps
- Preheat the oven and prepare baking sheets.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set them aside. - Cream the butter and sugars.
In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. The mixture should look pale and fluffy, which will give your cookies the perfect chewy texture. - Add the eggs and vanilla.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then, mix in the vanilla extract. The dough will now be beautifully smooth and fragrant. - Mix the dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want the dough to remain soft and tender. - Stir in the chocolate chips.
Gently fold in the 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips. These will add an irresistible texture to your cookies, with bursts of melty chocolate in every bite. - Scoop the dough and bake.
Using a cookie scoop or your hands, scoop out 2-3 tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them onto your prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. The cookies will spread slightly as they bake. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft and slightly underbaked. This ensures a gooey center. - Melt chocolate for the drizzle.
While the cookies are baking, melt 1 cup of chocolate chips or melting wafers using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until smooth. - Drizzle and cool.
Once the cookies come out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. While they are still slightly warm, drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of each cookie. This step adds an extra layer of indulgence! - Let the cookies set.
Allow the cookies to set until the chocolate drizzle firms up, or enjoy them slightly warm for a truly decadent treat.

Emma’s Tips
- Use high-quality cocoa: To achieve that deep, dark chocolate flavor, opt for a high-quality dark cocoa powder.
- Don’t overbake: The key to soft, gooey cookies is to slightly underbake them. Remove them from the oven when the edges are set, but the center still looks soft. They’ll continue to cook as they cool.
- Chill the dough: If you want thicker cookies, you can chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. This step prevents too much spread.
- Melting chocolate: If using a microwave to melt chocolate for the drizzle, do it in short bursts and stir frequently to avoid burning.
Serving Suggestions
- With a glass of milk: There’s nothing better than a classic pairing of warm cookies with a cold glass of milk.
- Ice cream sandwiches: Sandwich a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream between two cookies for the ultimate treat.
- With coffee: Serve these cookies with a hot espresso or cappuccino for a rich, indulgent afternoon break.
